Services

ISO's Distributed Computing Services
provides numerous state government
entities with personal computer and
local area network support.

Distributed Computing Services established a shared network to provide a set of common tools and resources to be used by employees to facilitate communications, provide access to vital information resources and to facilitate work group activities. The network provides access to shared printers throughout the office. It supports file sharing, allowing documents, spreadsheets and databases to be available to users as access is needed. Network security allows files to accessible by all users or only specified users. The network also provides access to the CIO mainframe systems and to the Internet.

A statewide e-mail system has been established to provide for communication among State
Government employees. The e-mail system provides the ability to send/receive e-mail across the Internet. Dialup services are also available to OIR employees via the network.

In order to provide quality network services, Distributed Computing Services staff
has been assigned responsibility for the following activities:
  • Consulting, configurations and procurement - the needs of the customer
  • are analyzed, technical specifications/configurations developed and recommendations/proposals are submitted to the customer. Once
  • approved, procurement documents are submitted.

  • Installing, upgrading, and maintaining all PC/LAN hardware, software and peripherals; cable configurations and installations are coordinated with the building electrical vendors and/or CIO's Telecommunications section.
  • Providing local network services by installing and maintaining needed PC applications such as: e-mail, mainframe access, Internet access, remote (dial in/dial out) access, text messaging via pager, PC/LAN backups and other services.
